Pilot Fail – Doesn’t know how to land with 30 years of flying experience!

How would you react to this – A pilot with 30 years of flying experience tells passengers that he is not qualified to land the plane? Shocking right! This pilot was flying a Flybe airline from Cardiff to Paris, and was suppose to land at Charles De Daulle airport. Though he had 30 years of flying experience backing him, but the pilot was incapable to fly that particular airplane in low-visibility conditions. Twenty minutes prior to landing at the Charles De Daulle airport, he turned the plane and took it back. I feel, 30 years of experience is what saved those lives in there, I would call this professionalism. An amateur pilot could well have taken the risk. I like the honesty; this is what experience is all about. Good job!

Pilot said:

‘Unfortunately I’m not qualified to land the plane in Paris. They are asking for a level two qualification and I only have a level five. We’ll have to fly back.’

A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority said that such a situation was rare, but not unheard of. “There are different classifications of aircraft and when an aircraft is updated, pilot’s who have flown an older version have to completely retrain.”
